Solazyme Announces New Chief Financial Officer

Tyler W. Painter Joins Solazyme Executive Team

South San Francisco, Calif - Oct. 29, 2007 – Solazyme, a bioscience company pioneering biofuels and health/wellness products from microalgae, has named Tyler W. Painter as chief financial officer.

As CFO, Painter will be responsible for providing Solazyme with the strong controls and intense fiscal discipline needed to support the company’s growth plans. In this role, Painter also will oversee human resources.

“Tyler’s experience in developing financial strategies, capital structuring and efficient processes will prove critical as we aggressively grow our business, build out our infrastructure and commercialize our products,” said Jonathan Wolfson, president and chief operating officer of Solazyme. “We are thrilled to have him join our management team.”

Painter brings more than 16 years of financial and operational management experience across private, public and Fortune 500 companies. Prior to joining Solazyme, Painter was acting vice president of finance and corporate controller for PMC-Sierra (PMCS), a leading provider of broadband communications and storage semiconductors. There he was instrumental in managing the finance organization through a period of significant transition while bolstering financial controls. Prior to PMC-Sierra, Painter spent six years at Wind River Systems (WIND), a publicly traded billion-dollar device software company. There he served as vice president of finance and was responsible for treasury, tax and investor Relations. While at Wind River, he earned several national awards for implementing industry-leading approaches to finance operations, including the Association of Finance Professional’s 2006 Pinnacle Award for Risk Management and the 2007 Top 5 Best Corporate Governance Practices in the U.S, awarded by Investor Relations Global Rankings.

Prior to Wind River Systems, Painter was a key member of the management team at Carsdirect, growing the company from pre-revenue to $150 million in revenue in two years and raising more than $300 million in private equity. Earlier in his career, Painter held various finance roles at Gap, Inc.

Painter holds a Bachelor of Science degree in finance from California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo.
