Solazyme Announces New Vice President and General Manager of Health and Wellness
Geoffrey J. Brooks co-founder of Brooks Industries Joins the Solazyme Management Team
South San Francisco, CA – May 13, 2008 – Solazyme, Inc., a biotechnology company unleashing the power of aquatic microbes to create clean and scalable solutions for biofuel, industrial chemical, and health and wellness markets, today announced that it has named Geoffrey J. Brooks as Vice President and General Manager Health and Wellness. Mr. Brooks will lead Solazyme’s development and commercialization of novel ingredients and consumer products emerging from its core algal technology platform with applications in personal care and beauty products, nutritional supplements, and functional foods.

Mr. Brooks is a recognized expert in the personal care industry. He has spent over 40 years developing new ingredients for cosmetics, hair care, and bath products as well as formulating and sensory testing of novel consumer products. He has helped develop and commercialize over 300 new cosmetic ingredients and formulated a wide range of cosmetic products some of which have become industry staples. Mr. Brooks was a co-founder of Brooks Industries and built it into a leading US cosmetics specialties company while serving as CTO for 17 years. After Brooks Industries was acquired by Arch Chemicals. Geoffrey remained on staff in a business development and new technology implementation role from 2000-2007.

Prior to Brooks Industries, Geoffrey spent 9 years at Croda and 8 years at Beecham Products in technical and marketing roles in the personal care area. Mr. Brooks holds a B.Sc. in Chemistry/Zoology from the University of London and belongs to the following professional associations: Society of Cosmetic Scientists (UK and USA), American Chemical Society, American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the Society of Investigative Dermatology.
